The Importance Of
Elbow fitness…
In order to avoid serious elbow pain from degeneration, you will need to keep in mind that a healthy elbow joint will depend on a combination of muscular strength and balance from the muscles around the shoulder blades (rhomboids), shoulders (deltoids) and down the upper arm (biceps and triceps) and into the forearm (extensors and flexors)…
Stretching the affected area, after the pain is gone, is a good way to rehabilitate your joint…
But strength building in the gym, after your joint has healed is a good way to keep the joint strong and the surrounding muscles even…
Before you do strengthening in the gym however, it is important that you understand what you did that caused the pain so you can make the needed adjustments in your work or sport…
So scroll down on this page to find your injury and then go to the provided link for more detailed information…
So just to re-cap:
- Healing with Rest, Ice, Compression (using sports tape) and Elevation…
- Light resistance workouts to re-balance all of the muscle groups. A personal trainer may be a good option to help you do this…
- Making needed adjustments to sporting equipment or your work area….
If these muscle groups are not strengthened and balanced with each other, there is a good chance that repetitive striking and/ or twisting movement will damage the elbow in the form of tendinitis or tendinosis…
This could eventually lead to a degenerative condition with chronic elbow joint pain if not looked after correctly…
Tennis Elbow
(Lateral Epicondylitis)…
- Common in people who play racket sports of any kind…
- The area of pain will be on the outside portion of the elbow…
- Pain will radiate from the elbow down the forearm and over the top of the hand due to shredding, or small tears in the tendon…
- Go to the Tennis Elbow page for more information on exercises and changes you may think about making in order to avoid re-curing pain and injury…
Golfers Elbow
(Medial Epicondylitis)…
- Common in those who play golf, hence the name…
- The area of pain is on the inside of the elbow…
- Tendon strain or tearing is involved…
- Please go to the Golfers Elbow page for specific information and suggestions to avoid recurring symptoms…
Elbow Tendonitis Can Also

Anyone who performs repetitive twisting or bending movements of the elbow such as…

‘Duty of care’ governs that management should note this in a work station risk assessment…
- Assembly line workers…

- Butchers…
Carpal tunnel syndrome is also a risk within these professions…
But before you decide you have carpal tunnel, please examine how you are sleeping…
Some people have this habit of sleeping on their stomach with their hands tucked underneath them, and this could be causing your wrist and hand pain…
Elbow Joint Pain
Caused By Bursitis…
The Olecranon Bursa is a pad on the tip of the elbow…
This bursa is a pad filled with synovial fluid that sits on the bony process of the elbow. It serves as protection to both bone tissue and your skin…
A direct traumatic hit, or repeated leaning on the elbows can cause irritation and even injury…
It is often called students elbow; carpet layers and plumbers also come up with this condition due to the constant stress they put on their elbows…
What I will caution you about is infection; this is when the situation can become serious…
