Shoulder Injury And
Repetitive Strain…

› [Shoulder Injury]
An injury to the shoulder can have obvious pain symptoms, or, none until damage has progressed sufficiently...

Shoulder injury comes from sources that may be obvious in some cases, like when you are playing a sport and have the obvious package of symptoms that go with injury such as pain, swelling, stiffness and weakness…

In the case of rotator cuff injuries, from repetitive strain in particular, it has been sited that only a third of these injuries involve actual pain symptoms…

The remaining three quarters of these injuries do not show up with pain until repetitive strain has made a significant change in the tissue via chemical changes to the tendons through the surrounding fascia…

This is a condition that will not normalize on its own due to the repair system in the body needing a bit of assistance…

This is where Chiropractic and some deep tissue massage therapy (usually done by physios and not for relaxation) comes in…

Shoulder Injury Comes With
A Unique Vulnerability…

Shoulders are a bit weird because, inside the very joint that is responsible for so much of our upper body movement, the blood supply is naturally low…

There are pros and cons to this…

For example, in a different day and age, if you were in hand to hand combat and got cut on the shoulder with a sword, you would have been badly injured, but not as likely to bleed to death as you would have been if that same sword slash was delivered to your thigh; where a major (femoral) artery lives…

Where injury from repetitive strain is involved, the small blood supply to the shoulder is definitely a liability…

The timeline for healing a shoulder joint can be anywhere from two weeks to one year + depending on the type of injury and how it is treated at the outset of the injury; for example:

What immediate action was taken when the shoulder was first injured – the first twenty-four hours is critical…

Was your shoulder diagnosed correctly…?

Is your shoulder receiving the correct treatment and rehabilitation…?

How disciplined is your home treatment regime…?

What kind of fitness and diet regime do you keep in general…?

If Your Shoulder Injury
Originates In A Tendon…

Tendons in the shoulder will thicken via chemical firing in the fascia tissue....

Tendonitis (swelling around the tendon) is a common symptom should a shoulder become injured from repetitive strain; also known as an overuse injury…

Depending on the amount of overuse it has been subject to, your shoulder injury can turn into calcific tendonitis…

If your shoulder has become frozen from calcific tendonitis your choices have become few:

  • Corticosteroid injection…
  • Surgery…
  • Deep tissue therapy that may or may not work (it will depend on how much of the shoulder has degenerated and on your body’s healing capacities) and it will be painful…

Let’s back up a bit and talk about why this is in terms of structure…

The Structure Of Muscle
Tissue As It Differentiates
Into Tendon…

All components of muscle and tendon are wrapped in the supportive structural tissue called fascia...

When you understand how muscle tissue is arranged, then you can see also how the tendons are arranged and how they become damaged…

Each fibre of muscle tissue is made up of a bundle of cells that are specifically geared to make a specified type of muscle fibre. Each fibre of muscle is wrapped in fascia….

Fascia is connective tissue that supports forms the muscle tissue bundles…

Then, the fascia wrapped fibres are collectively formed to make several bundles of muscle fibres, and this bundle is also wrapped in fascia….

These bundles eventually give your muscle a shape in accordance with the particular job that muscle has...

Whole muscles, composed of muscle bundles, are wrapped and supported with fascia until the muscle tissue ends, and the tendon, the fibre that attaches the muscle into the bone, begins…

At the place where the muscle ends, the connective fascia tissue also continues straight into the tendon…

So fascia, in this case, is the main connector of muscle tissue bundles, it connects muscles to tendons, and connects those tendons into your bony tissue…

This structure is not just in the shoulder but runs throughout the whole structure of your body…!

Fascia Has A
Unique Ability…

Fascia has the unique ability to chemically change on contact…

That’s right…

As soon as there is impact, or pulling from imbalance, the collagen fibres that fascia is made from thickens; even to the degree of calcification depending on the degree of impact….

The singular reason for this chemical reaction is to protect your joint…

The single drawback is that one all of the fibres in a tendon have bunched up to protect your joint, they do not shake themselves out and go back to a normal formation on their own; they need help…!

Types Of Treatments
That Are Helpful For
Shoulder Injury...

Shoulders can be adjusted painlessly with Acitvator Methods Chiropractic...

It stands to reason that with shoulder injury caused by repetitive strain, what you have is this chemical firing into the tissue so many times, that you end up with calcific tendonitis (a form of arthritis) from the initial shoulder injury…

Which also will involve:

  • Muscle spasms due to the imbalance that a bunched tendon creates in muscle tissue…
  • Misalignments in the bones due to the active system of the muscle pulling on the passive system of bones…

This is why, if you want optimal treatment:

  • A.R.T. Chiropractic…or
  • Activator Methods Chiropractic…
  • And, a massage therapist who understands therapeutic, deep tissue work and treats sports injuries are the best options…

The listed treatment regimes will work out and reshape the tendon and muscle, releasing them from the bunching effect of the chemical reaction…

They will also use this very chemical reaction to re-balance the muscles, and the muscle to tendon tension ratios...

When you do this, you end the recurring cycle of damage to your shoulder and keep it from progressing into additional sections of your shoulder, or down into your arm through malapositioning caused by compensatory movement…

Repetitive strain injuries to the shoulder do not need to end jobs or sporting careers…

Natural Pain
Relief...

Over the counter as well as prescribed pain relief medications are fast acting and potent, but what happens if you need to take them to manage your pain over a period of years, or for the rest of your life...?

You may wish to do some research and look into some natural pain relief remedies that will not have the toxic effects on your internal organs that most pain medications do after a lengthy period of time...

I have provided some basic information regarding supplementation that provides natural pain relief to help get you started - just click on the link below...

Natural Pain Relief

Summary...

If you have an understanding of how your tendons interact with your muscles to form any joint in your body, and you are willing to be disciplined with the RICE technique (read more link)…and arrange to receive care on a regular basis…

And this means whether you are experiencing joint pain or not; this is the key to maintenance care- regular service like you would have on a beloved automobile...

This way you can keep yourself free of permanent damage via repetitive strain to your shoulder and any joint in your body…!
