When Hip Pain Is
Due To Osteoarthritis...

› [Osteoarthritis And Hip Pain]

Hip pain can come from over 25 sources that I can think of off the top of my head, but on this page I am going to talk about osteoarthritis specifically because it is:

  • One of the most common conditions...
  • One of the most painful conditions...
  • And one condition that, in many cases, you can still do something about…

One of the first steps to take is to get properly diagnosed. Many chiropractors (not all) can do this for you with range of motion tests and some imaging…

If a chiropractor offers to just adjust you and you are having severe hip pain, please look for a different chiropractor. Hip pain is too complex in many instances for blind adjustment...

They should also examine the area for heat and inflammation to rule out infection. In most cases of hip joint pain it is usually children or someone very elderly who will come up with infection in this area, but infection always needs to be ruled out during any examination...

Once you know this is a case of osteoarthritis excluding other disease processes such as rheumatoid, for example, which is an autoimmune disease and needs drug intervention…

You can manage the hip pain and promote healing with:

  • Chiropractic...
  • Supplementation...
  • A diet that is specific to your blood type…
  • A check list of things you can do at home...

Hip Pain From Osteoarthritis
Develops
Initially From Soft
Tissue Degeneration…

Osteoarthritis is indicated when there is narrowing of the joint space due to tissue degeneration...

Soft tissue degeneration comes about through several mitigating factors:

  • Overuse – If you are training in a sport and train more quickly than your body can recover, or you are in a physically demanding job and are not getting time to recover, this can result in an overuse injury…
  • Form and balance - Your form and balance when playing sport or performing a physically taxing job plays a huge role in the wear and tear on a hip joint…
  • Diet and nutrition - You can eat what appears to be healthy food and still not be able to digest any of it if your blood type responds to it in a way that causes your body to react by making your red blood cells sticky and stacked. This will eventually deprive you of oxygen and oxygen deprivation is the enemy of anyone doing anything that is physically demanding...

In Osteoarthritis, hip pain comes directly from an area from within the joint where the soft tissue has degenerated. In worse case situations, we may see that the bone has developed spurring or osteophytes from the direct pressure or has begun to crumble from movement that causes the bones to rub together…

Or, it can also be that the soft tissue is under too much weight causing an excess of friction and the soft tissues are swollen and irritated…

In this later scenario, you can still work to maintain and improve the health of the joint.  In the first scenario, pain management and hip replacement will be necessary…

Prevention And Maintenance
Is Key To Avoiding
These Scenarios…

Regular weekly chiropractic adjustments are one of the best investments you can make to preserve your joints...!

If you play sport or do a physically demanding job that causes hip pain, one of the best decisions you can make is to invest in yourself...

  • Chiropractic Adjustments – to keep your form and balance during activity through correct proprioception...
  • Massage- to keep lactic acid build up and spasms out of your muscle tissue...
  • Joint Chondroitin and Glucosamine – a supplement that strengthens joints...
  • Bags of crushed ice for ten minutes x 2 over two hours - on the area of your hips that hurt after work or sport – this keeps inflammation down and the joint clean by encouraging circulation...
  • A diet specific to your blood type – Check out the blood type diet by Dr. Peter D'Adamo...

Another thing that will keep you healthy is a balanced weight lifting and yoga/ stretching regime. This is key to avoiding repetitive hip pain all together because there are several stretches and yoga poses that can reach areas that you would not want a chiropractor or masseus to reach in your pelvic region...

Anywhere you have a muscle that threads through your pelvis, you also have bones and tendons and ligaments that have the potential to cause hip pain...

If you want to keep your hips in great shape throughout your lifetime consider doing these things on a regular basis. One of the most heartbreaking things I have come by in practice is a permanently ruined joint on a person who has been very active all of their life and doesn’t know how to be any other way…

Don’t let this be you…!

With A Diagnosis Of
Osteoarthritis
In Your Hip...

Another diagram of healthy vs. a worn joint. The main thing to take away from this is that a worn joint is a painful joint.

Your main concern will be with tissue conservation and reducing inflammation…

The 'hip' is a layman's term that can mean the Sacroiliac Joint, or where the head of the femur inserts into the acetabulum – look at the diagram…

Or it can even refer to the top of the iliotibial band, or the gluteal and piriformis muscles...

All of these get referred to as the 'hip' when people seek help for hip pain...

So with that in mind, there are different pieces of cartilage and other soft tissues that correspond to each of these locations, and each area balances the other…

If one area degenerates the other areas will crop up with pain soon due to the imbalance created by the degeneration of the original area...

Curcumin is the active ingredient in Turmeric that reduces inflammation...

So don't man or woman up and ignore it… invest in yourself!

  • Chiropractic...
  • Ice...
  • Sports Tape Applied Correctly (Acti-Tape or Strength Tape for example) - You can find you tube videos to show you how, or have your chiropractor apply first to show you…
  • Turmeric…

Now, with regard to Turmeric, its a moody little spice – doesn't like heat or light- and it is getting sold in many forms and price ranges. Some people choose supplements and others buy the roots for planting as they grow easily like ginger in moist heat. You can waz it up raw into a super food shake to drink...

So which one should you choose?

Please note that Turmeric needs a bit of fat and heat to make it bio-available (available to be used by your body). This is because it is fat soluble. This is different than vitamin C or B complex, for example, that gets washed out in your urine…

Turmeric gets into your tissues and the effect will eventually become cumulative. This is why it can get deep into your tissues to battle inflammation. Sometimes people can overdose on it, so remember that more is not always better. Also please know that it works better for some blood profiles than others...

A constant dose for a month, then a two week break, then continue for another month is recommended so your body does not become immune to its benefits...

If you choose supplements in capsule or gel form, make sure it is preserved with a type of oil or bees wax and perhaps some pepper…

Having a curry with turmeric for you hip pain unfortunately will not have the same effect because cooking denatures the therapeutic effects of the spice…

If Your Hip Has Bone Spurs
Or Is Leaving Detritus In
The Joint…

You can follow any of the measures listed above to see if you can get some pain relief, but long term, the hip pain will remain severe and surgery will be required…

One of the most important factors in such an advanced case is to get your weight down by adjusting your diet to your blood type. With the blood type diet its not about starving yourself, it about nutritional health. One of the things D'Adamo discovered in his research is that for types O and A in particular, food lectins from 'avoid' foods can get into joint spaces and destroy tissue and cause joint pain all over the body...

A clean diet of foods your body considers 'medicinal' will have the opposite effect and aid your joints and the rest of your body in healing…

Natural Pain
Relief...

Over the counter as well as prescribed pain relief medications are fast acting and potent, but what happens if you need to take them to manage your pain over a period of years, or for the rest of your life...?

You may wish to do some research and look into some natural pain relief remedies that will not have the toxic effects on your internal organs that most pain medications do after a lengthy period of time...

I have provided some basic information regarding supplementation that provides natural pain relief to help get you started - just click on the link below...

Natural Pain Relief

Never Give
Up...

Always invest in your health...

You are worth it. If you are living in a rural place and have little money, you may have something you can trade for a service such as massage or a particular service or type of food you need…

Investment isn't always about money; it sometimes can turn out to be about relationships and having good symbiosis with others so everyone is getting what they need. This is one thing I have found out in my life on many adventures, so I would like you to examine your relationships...

Work on having something of real value to offer to others and set up your own economy. I have traded my chiropractic skill on many occassions for food and supplies for example. What I am saying in a really simple way here is that we do not have to be as dependant on governments and the powers that be as we are taught to believe. Money is important in a world economy, but what about your neighborhood economy?

Also, if your work or sport has to stop, remember, there are other alternatives - you will know about something in life that others may need to know about…

There are other opportunities for you to make a shift professionally if you are injured and your hip pain dictates that it is no longer business as usual…

So keep your head up and find a way - you can do this...!
