Golfers Elbow...

› [Golfer's Elbow]
Golfers Elbow is also known as Medial Epicondylitis. Whether you are a golfer or a tradesman or a housewife, if you over-use your elbow you are in danger of permanent damage if it is left untreated!

Golfers Elbow is also known as medial epicondylitis...

It is not only golfers who get it but people who work in various sectors of industry such as...

  • Chefs...
  • Construction workers...
  • Machinists...
  • Factory workers...

Elbow joint pain can be simple and stay simple if it is treated properly, or become critical if it is ignored...

Chiropractors Who Work
Well With Golfers Elbow are:

I recommend Activator Doctors who actually use the Activator Protocol...

The Activator Gun (and its protocol) is an instrument I have used myself during my twenty years as a chiropractor; it is ingenious for the accurate and specific (not to mention pain free) adjustment of limbs...

When the strain from tendinitis is present, bones easily slip out of alignment and add to the pain and irritation...

  • An Activator treatment...
  • Taping your elbow with Strength Tape...
  • Rest...

is a winning combination if you want to heal as quickly as possible...

I have had my own elbow adjusted through other methods in chiropractic, but since I am a fan of precision myself, I like the Activator Gun the best...

Keeping Your Elbow
Joint Healthy...

Please go to the elbow joint pain treatment page to get started on your in home treatment...

Then come back here to read more about Golfers Elbow (medial epicondylitis) and
and what you can do to keep yourself free of elbow joint pain...

Keeping an elbow joint healthy and free of Golfers Elbow while playing sport or at work requires that the muscle groups in the arms and the back maintain a balance in strength and tone...
  • Muscles around the shoulder blades (rhomboids)...
  • The shoulder muscles (deltoids)...
  • The upper arm (biceps and triceps)...
  • The forearm (extensors and flexors)...

Specific resistance movement is key to keeping the elbow joint healthy.

If these muscle groups are not strengthened evenly additional pressure will be applied to the tendon through the golf swing or a repetitive motion...

The end result is that it develops micro - tears that eventually change tension in the arm, and this is when the pain and swelling begin...

Above is a resistance circuit to balance the muscular tension between the back and arms. You may also wish to employ a personal trainer who understands your injury and will not push too hard 'out of the gate...'

It is also important to make sure that you are pain free before beginning resistance training...

To Do List For
Golfers Elbow...

  • Two to three weeks of down time from golf or work and following the instructions on the elbow joint pain treatment page...
  • Adjusting grips on golf clubs, changing the weight of your equipment; study it and tailor it to you...
  • When the pain is gone, start a circuit of balanced light resistance training for your back and arms as illustrated by the picture to the right...

If your elbow joint begins to hurt again, STOP, ICE, ELEVATE...use your judgement and review  the timeline; how long has this been going on?

Journaling day to day is particularly helpful so you can see your own time line and also if you need to consult with a physician if you are not noticing improvement...

If you take the ambiguity out of the casework for the doctor, you have a better chance of getting better quality assistance - putting your progress in writing where time and date are noted is a potent way to get the attention you need...

  • Learn and re - learn how to adjust the taping on your elbow...
  • Think about how much time you use your elbow joint to work or play golf and how much time you spend in the gym training to keep your muscle groups even...

Golfers Elbow Left
Untreated Will Turn Into

Chronic Joint Pain...

Clients who have refused to take their injury seriously have developed chronic Joint Pain...

Elbow Joint Pain can become serious if the tip of the elbow becomes swollen and infected - this is called Septic Olecranon Bursitis and you should get help right away if your elbow resembles the picture to the right...

If the tip of your elbow is inflammed, please seek medical help as you could be looking at an infection...

An arthritic condition may also develop, which means a painful elbow for life, due to bone spurs developing in the joint...

Please take care of even the smallest amount of elbow joint pain now, do not put it off to go and play even one more round...
and do not continue working with it...

Treat it at home, with rest, ice, tape, elevation...if there is no noticeable improvement within two weeks...

You may wish to do some research and look into some natural pain relief remedies that will not have the toxic effects on your internal organs that most pain medications do after a lengthy period of time...

Natural Pain Relief

If The GP Resists Giving You
Needed Time Off Work...

The GP will give you pain medication which can help with pain and swelling, but the elbow joint will still need rest...

I recommend they only be taken at night and
never taken before playing golf or going to work as this will mask the condition, and continue to make it worse...

Let the GP know what kind of work you do if they don't already know, and let them know you have a ' to do list' and a journal if you have one...

And that you plan on carrying out the outlined measures so they can know that you are serious about helping yourself...

This way they can see that you know the nature of this injury and that it can get worse if not properly treated...

In the long run, a short time off work or sport will serve you and your employer, or your game, the best...
