NOLAN RYAN DID NOT PITCH

UNTIL HIGH SCHOOL
BECAUSE...

Nolan Ryans parents and coaches understood that a young person growing up needs time to develop their skills in a stress free environment....

In four words...

The Ulnar Collateral Ligament...

This ligament is the main stabilizing ligament for the elbow joint...

In throwing a baseball or softball, it is this ligament that allows the arm to stay in one piece during throwing action. It creates stabilization because it is holding the ulna and the humorous- two of the main bones in the arm together ...

Should this ligament get  damaged or torn from...

  • Over pitching...
  • Pitching too hard...
  • Pitching without sufficient warm up time...

It is very difficult to heal, and damaging it early in a career can end one before it even begins...

Especially if the person is pitching too young and...

  • Using pitches that should not be used until later in a career...
  • Using a particular pitch too many times...

Elbow Pain Can Develop
More Easily In An
Immature Joint...

Pediatric elbow trauma is reported and treated every year in the United States due to pitching injuries and over-use trauma.

There are more children and young people pursuing sports on a serious level than ever with hopes of getting to the big leagues or qualifying for a place in the Olympic Games with a view to advancing to a professional sporting arena...

In the competition to get to bigger and more prestigious competitions, our kids are showing up in the ER and in doctors offices...

One thing that really needs to be understood in these cases is that when a person is not done growing, soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments and cartilage are not done growing either...

Elbow joint pain can develop in several different ways and young joints need additional care to survive the rigors of sport...

Joints cannot be done growing and changing until the bones have finished lengthening. When they have, then cartilage, ligaments and tendons can occupy the joint space and strengthen appropriately...

Because our kids are still growing, and the stress of sport has increased on both a physical and mental level, we need to help them take care of their joints to avoid serious joint pain...

'MAN UP' IS NOT THE WAY
To Develop A Great Career...

Young bodies need a chance to grow into their bravery and strength in a stress free zone...

In short,  the order to MAN UP is fine for MEN...

With kids its tricky because bravery and risk taking need to be developed in the game, and in life, but there is also the issue of developing tissue...

We of course want our children to build character  but this is why kids and adults alike need to educate themselves with how the bodies of our young people develop...

Rest, 10 minutes of ice, compression with some cool looking tape and elevation will make the difference between a ligament that is going to be able to see out
a Little and Big League Career...

And an athlete who knows how to look after themselves- and because they do - go on to have a celebrated career...

Elbow Pain
Prevention...

A of tape and an instant ice pack applied directly after a game goes a long way in injury prevention...

  • Resistance training on all parts of the back/ shoulders/ and arm in the gym in proportion to being on the court, on a golf course, or on the ball field...
