If your elbow looks like this, get yourself to the doctor right away...

Elbow joint pain treatment is fairly standard across the board unless there is an infection or an arthritic condition…

 If the joint:

  • Is in pain...
  • the skin is red...
  • The joint is hot and inflamed..

These are classic signs of infection...

If your elbow resembles the picture below, please seek treatment immediately...

For Elbow Joint Pain Treatment
A Bag Of Crushed Ice Works Best...

If you have a prosthetic or high blood pressure, seek medical treatment and DO NOT use ice for elbow joint pain treatment or for the treatment of any joint….

PLEASE DO NOT use heat or heat topical cream on a new injury...

Any injury that is more current that 72 hours old is considered a new injury...

  • Ice bags, frozen sponge or a gel pack is an effective at taking out heat and reducing swelling; apply for 10 minutes every two hours…
  • Your selection of bag, sponge or gel pack will be dependant upon your individual sensitivity to cold. If you are not sensitive to cold the bag of crushed ice is your best bet...

Leaving it on longer can reverse the process...

Instead of reducing inflammation, it can add to it. This will happen because after 10 minutes, the body’s natural response is to fight an excess of cold with body heat, and swelling will get a chance to resume its course…

For effective elbow joint pain treatment, you want the tissues to stay cooled down to reduce swelling, so if the body gets involved and tries to heat the area back up, we have defeated our purpose in applying ice…

Skin damage (frost bite) is also an issue, that is why it is important to put a wet flannel on the skin if you elect to use a bag of crushed ice. The information I have read states that you will get the best result if you use ice 10 minutes at a time every 2 hours...

Place Your Elbow
Up On A Pillow...

Another effective elbow joint pain treatment is to prop your elbow up on a pillow while reclining back or, ideally, laying down in bed (with or without an ice pack) in order to keep swelling at a minimum…

This is an effective way to immediately reduce swelling because when the elbow is raised or placed over and above the heart, this slows blood flow to the area…

Should the elbow or arm or fingers go numb while up on the pillow, put the arm down to regain blood flow…

Rest...

Rest is one of the best and most potent healing methods for an elbow...

It is even FREE...!   AND... It is the last thing anyone wants to do...!

During years in practice I have had several golfers, tennis players, baseball players and people in numerous jobs with elbow joint pain come through the door, And REST was always best, but it was the last thing they wanted to do…

  • If you want to save your time, money, sports career, sporting hobby or job, resting your elbow is absolutely necessary for your recovery…

People who took pain killers and resumed business as usual did not recover well or quickly, and some were forced to retire from their occupation or sport because the joint was so injured it could no longer function in a coordinated way without pain…

Sports Tape...

Strength Tape, applied correctly, will give you added support, increased range of motion and protection on an over-used joint.

Another part of your treatment for elbow joint pain should be the application of sports tape...

There are many brands of tape on the market today; whether you play sports, or are in a job where  repetitive twisting and bending movements can cause recurring pain and injury, tape can be highly beneficial…

Strength Tape is a brand I have used - applications last from three to seven days, improve circulation, alleviate pain and the tape is water proof…

Taping is useful if you have just injured the joint or if you are returning to work or sport…

It can also be used as a stabilizer and for compression with ice to re-introduce movement into the arm after an injury...

Instructions for application and ordering can be found if you go to www.strengthtape.com

Natural Pain
Relief...

Over the counter as well as prescribed pain relief medications are fast acting and potent, but what happens if you need to take them to manage your pain over a period of years, or for the rest of your life...?

You may wish to do some research and look into some natural pain relief remedies that will not have the toxic effects on your internal organs that most pain medications do after a lengthy period of time...

I have provided some basic information regarding supplementation that provides natural pain relief to help get you started - just click on the link below...

Natural Pain Relief

Ibuprofen, Aspirin
And Paracetamol...

NSAIDS that you can purchase over the counter are good for masking pain by blocking pain signals to your brain. But you may lose track of where you actually are in terms of healing.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can give temporary relief, but the downfall is that they also mask joint pain  by inhibiting pain signals to your brain– the injury is still there, so please do not take them and resume with your sport or your job…

Doing this can make your condition worse and will force you to take more time off of work, or off your sport in the end…

As an elbow joint pain treatment, I have suggested to people that they take these only before going to bed at night so there is no confusion about how well the joint has actually healed...

There is an argument that it is not a good idea to let the pain get too bad before you taking pain killers...

Ultimately it is up to you, but please know that using them so you can return to activity is an idea that could compromise your elbow joint in the worse way...
